3 Ways You Can Adapt Your Laser Engraving Machine

Written by Rachel Wall | Apr 25, 2022 11:16:06 AM

Our N-Lase range is designed to be modular, meaning you can adapt your laser engraving machine in various ways to suit numerous applications without the need for a whole new laser machine. So, what options are available? In this blog you take you through the different optional accessories you can choose for your laser system, and the results that these adaptations can help you achieve.

FUME EXTRACTION

Although laser systems themselves don't produce fumes while in operation, the material you are processing with your laser may do. If this occurs, it is essential to have these fumes removed from the working area either out of the building or into a self-contained fume filtration system. Not only does a laser fume extraction system get rid of any harmful fumes, but it also helps to keep your laser lens clean as well as any production lines your machine may be integrated into.

Providing great basic fume extraction and allowing you to maintain safe operator working conditions, the N-EX Mini features three stage filtration alongside a condition indicator as standard. The DeepPleat pre filter, HEPA and a chemical section enables you to remove 99.997% of particles 0.3 micron in size. This compact solutions is a great accompaniment to our N-Lase Desktop and Desktop Pro systems.

Alternatively, a larger but still portable solution is the N-EX Pure (pictured below). This larger option boasts a great selection of features, including many typically found only in larger systems, and will meet most medium duty applications with ease. The N-EX Pure would be ideally suited for our N-Lase Benchtop or Workstation systems.

LASER SOURCES

While our N-Lase systems come with a standard MOPA fiber laser source, there are options available to adapt and upgrade to either a more powerful source or a dual-source option. But why would we need to do this?

Different laser sources are capable of processing different materials and more powerful source can produce a wider variety of marks and finishes. For example, our Desktop and Desktop Pro systems come with a 20W-50W fiber laser source as standard, which is suitable for less heavy-duty applications. Alternatively, our Integrated systems come with a 20W-100W source as standard due to the nature of the high-speed manufacturing processes they are designed to be integrated into.

We have three laser source options to choose from. Here is a list of the different materials you can mark with each:

ROTARY ATTACHMENT

Have you ever seen a ring with a beautiful engraving all the way around it, and wondered how it got there? How can such an intricate and detailed design be applied to such a small 360° surface? It is likely that it was marked using a laser with a rotary attachment.

Laser engraving with a rotary attachment shouldn't be confused with rotary engraving, which involves rotating a cutting tool in a motorised spindle. This action creates a groove at a specific depth in the material. Rotary engraving is a form of mechanical engraving - we covered laser engraving vs. mechanical engraving in a recent blog post.

Rotaty attachments are a game changer for laser engraving. Compatible with all of our N-Lase systems, the N-RT 65 (pictured below) and N-RT 80 rotary accessories allow for 360° radial laser engraving. Robust and reliable, rotary attachments work wonders in our N-Lase range to provide a wider scope of marking options.
